Type it, paste it, link it or snap it

However the recipe reaches you, it ends up on one confirm screen with every ingredient already matched.

Four ways in

Start from wherever the recipe lives

Type a recipe line by line, using Loopa’s food search or the barcode scanner for each ingredient. Paste a whole recipe as text. Import one from a link. Or photograph a recipe card, a cookbook page or a handwritten note.

Loopa reads amounts the way recipes write them: fractions, mixed numbers, ranges like “2–3 cloves”, “1 cup + 2 tbsp” and “salt to taste”.

  • Manual entry with food search and barcode scanning
  • Paste a recipe as text
  • Import from a recipe link
  • Snap a photo of a recipe card

Matched for you

Ingredients matched to Loopa’s food database

Every line is matched to a food automatically, and the confirm screen shows each match so you can change the food, the amount or the unit before you save. Mark a line optional, or set how much of it you actually eat, for things like frying oil or a marinade.

On iPhone, iPad and Android, the text on a photographed recipe is read on the phone itself, so the picture stays on your device unless you choose it as the recipe photo.

  • Every match shown before anything is saved
  • Swap a food, an amount or a unit
  • Set how much of an ingredient you eat
  • Fix a match whenever you like

Nutrition facts, calculated

A Nutrition Facts panel for every recipe

Per serving, from the ingredients you added, in the same panel layout as a food label.

Per serving

Calories, macros and micronutrients

Calories, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fiber, sugar and sodium, plus the vitamins and minerals the matched foods carry, with % Daily Value on the panel.

Per 100 g

When the cooked weight is known

Add the finished weight and Loopa also shows nutrition per 100 g, so you can log the grams on your plate.

Clearly labeled

“Nutrition estimated” when a value is estimated

When any line could only be estimated, the recipe says so, and one tap shows which lines to adjust. A nutrient no matched food reports is left blank rather than shown as zero.

Kept current

Food data updates, flagged for you

If a matched food is updated, your recipe tells you, and refreshing it recalculates the panel from today’s food data.

Scale and log

Cook for two, cook for ten, and log what you ate

Scaling and logging are built around how people actually cook.

Scale to any serving size

Kitchen-friendly amounts, in your units

Change the servings in quarter steps, or scale from an ingredient you have on hand: enter 450 g of chicken and the whole recipe adjusts around it.

Amounts follow your metric or imperial settings and round to measures you can use, so a third of a cup halved becomes 2 ⅔ tbsp, not 0.167 cups. Scale far up or down and Loopa reminds you that leaveners, salt, spices and cook times may need adjusting.

  • By servings, in quarter steps
  • By the amount of one ingredient on hand
  • Metric or imperial, from your settings
  • Fractions you can measure
Loopa Scale by an ingredient sheet: choose the ingredient you have, chicken thigh, and enter how much of it you have
Log it to any meal

Copy a recipe to your diary

Choose the meal, then log it by servings or, when the cooked weight is known, by the grams on your plate. The entry lands in your diary with the full nutrition of that portion, and it opens the recipe again from your diary.

Your diary keeps what you logged, even if the recipe is edited later.

  • Breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack
  • By servings or by grams eaten
  • Micronutrients carried into your diary
  • Opens the recipe again from your diary

Built around your health goals

Recipes that know what you are working toward

The checks Loopa already runs on your food run on your recipes too.

Low FODMAP

Compatibility checked per serving

FODMAP limits depend on how much of a food you eat, so every recipe is checked per serving and labeled Low FODMAP compatible, Caution, Not compatible, or Not enough information (source). Filter Discover to compatible recipes only, and when you are on the Low FODMAP track the check uses your own phase.

The Low FODMAP track
Allergens

Filter out what you avoid

Recipes show which of the nine major food allergens their ingredients match (source), and you can leave recipes containing them out of Discover, along with anything on your own never-eat list.

Protein-forward

Protein per serving and per 100 kcal

Every recipe shows protein per serving and per 100 kcal, and Discover sorts by either. For people who exercise, a daily protein intake of about 1.4 to 2.0 g per kg of body weight is recommended (source).

Protein calculator
Medication alerts

Checked when you log

If you keep medications or protocol compounds in Loopa, logging a recipe checks its ingredients against them using FDA product labeling, and shows any interaction alert before the entry is saved. Alerts are information to take to your clinician or pharmacist.

Medications in Loopa

A filter, not an allergy clearance

Allergens are matched from ingredient names and may be incomplete. If you have a food allergy, read the ingredients and the labels of what you buy. Interaction alerts are informational and are not medical advice: talk with your clinician or pharmacist about your medications.

FAQ

Questions about Recipes

The ones people ask before they cook.

Which plans include Recipes?

Recipes are part of Loopa Premium and Loopa Premium Family, and every new member gets all of Premium free for the first 14 days, with no card. After that, Loopa Premium is $59.99 a year ($5 a month) or $12.99 a month. Loopa Premium Family covers up to six people for $99.99 a year or $19.99 a month. Or keep Loopa Basic, free. Clients on a coach’s Coach plan and patients on a clinic’s Clinic plan have Premium through it, so Recipes are included for them. On Loopa Basic, the recipes you created stay yours to open, export and delete.

How is the nutrition calculated?

Each ingredient line is matched to a food in Loopa’s food database and converted to grams, and the recipe’s calories, macros and micronutrients are added up from those foods and divided by the servings. When a line could only be estimated, for example an ingredient with no close match, the recipe is labeled “Nutrition estimated” and you can tap through to see which lines and adjust them.

Can I use metric or imperial measurements?

Yes. Amounts follow your own unit settings, grams or ounces for weight and milliliters or cups for liquids, and scaled amounts are rounded to measures you can actually use: ⅓ cup, 2 ⅔ tbsp, 1 ½ cloves.

Can I import a recipe from a website?

Yes. Paste the link and Loopa reads the recipe from the page, then shows you every ingredient match to confirm before anything is saved. Imported recipes stay in your own library: they are yours to cook, scale and log, and they are not shared to the community, out of respect for the original author.

Who can see my recipes?

Only you. Every recipe is private until you choose Share to community, and you can take a shared recipe back to private at any time. Sharing with your family group is a separate, one-recipe-at-a-time choice.

What happens to recipes I shared if I delete my account?

Recipes you shared with the community stay in the library without your name. Your private recipes, saves, ratings, collections and grocery list are deleted. The deletion screen in the app says so before you confirm.

Do Recipes work offline?

On iPhone, iPad and Android, your own recipes and the ones you saved are kept on the phone, and scaling is worked out on the phone, so you can open and scale them without a connection. Grocery list changes made offline are kept and sync when you are back online. Logging a recipe to your diary needs a connection, so the medication and allergy checks can run first.

Does Loopa check recipes for allergens?

Each recipe shows the major allergens matched from its ingredient names, you can filter recipes that contain them out of Discover, and Loopa warns you when a recipe includes something on your own never-eat list. Allergens matched from names can be incomplete, so if you have a food allergy, check the ingredients and labels yourself.
