“I test my ketones most mornings, and the numbers sit in a notes app with nothing beside them to explain them.”

See what moves with your ketones.

Metabolic Insights is where Loopa keeps your blood ketone readings: it pairs each one with a glucose reading for your glucose ketone index and compares them with the rest of your day.

Your ketones and GKI, beside the food, fasting, sleep and weight you already log.

Start tracking ketones

14 days of everything, no card. Then $59.99 billed once a year ($5 a month), or $12.99 a month.

The Loopa Metabolic Insights screen on iPhone with cards for the latest ketones, glucose ketone index, glucose and fasting, each with when it was taken and a trend

Track, connect, adjust

Bring food, fitness, health measurements and personal protocols together so people can track what happened, connect patterns and make better-informed adjustments.

Track

Enter the BHB reading from your meter with its time and context, and Loopa pairs it with a glucose reading taken close to it for your GKI.

Connect

Each reading sits beside the food, fasting, sleep, exercise and weight around it, and the charts put them on the same dates.

Adjust

See which patterns hold up in your own readings and which do not, then take them to your clinician or coach.

Blood ketones rise when carbohydrate is scarce, such as during a fast or on a very low-carbohydrate diet, and the glucose ketone index expresses glucose and ketones as a single ratio.12

Within your first session you’ll have your first ketone reading logged and paired with a glucose reading for your GKI.

Log a reading

Your meter’s number, with the day around it

Ketones live beside everything else you track, not in a notes app.

Log ketones

A reading in a few seconds

Tap Log a ketone reading and enter the BHB number from your meter, from 0 to 10 mmol/L. Loopa stamps the time, and you can add the context and a note.

Testing at the same times each day? A Ketone check reminder opens straight to the entry sheet.

  • Fasting, before or after a meal, before or after exercise, bedtime or on waking
  • A note up to 280 characters
  • A Ketone check reminder that opens the sheet
  • Edit or delete a reading whenever you like

Glucose ketone index

Paired with your glucose for you

A GKI only means something when the glucose and ketone readings were taken together, so Loopa finds the pair. Automatic uses your nearest glucose reading within 15 minutes, or within 30 if there is none closer. Or enter the glucose from the same test, or choose one from a list showing how many minutes away each one is.

Edit or delete that glucose later and the GKI follows it. With nothing close enough, the GKI says “No data” rather than guessing.2

  • Glucose in mg/dL ÷ 18.016 ÷ ketones in mmol/L
  • Automatic, entered or chosen pairing
  • A glucose you enter is saved to your vitals too
  • No target, no range, no color for good or bad

The things that tend to move ketones, gathered for you from what you already log.

Food

The 24 hours before

Net carbs, carbs, fiber, protein, fat and energy logged in the day before the reading, and how long since your last meal.

Fasting

Whether you were in a fast

A fast you timed in Loopa, and how many hours into it you were when you tested.

Sleep and recovery

The night before

Last night’s sleep and your resting heart rate, from Apple Health or Health Connect.

Movement

Exercise and steps

Exercise in the 24 hours before the reading and your steps that day.

Weight

Your nearest weigh-in

The weight closest to the reading, and how it changed over the week before.

Baselines

Your own 30-day medians

Ketones, GKI, glucose, sleep, resting heart rate and weight, compared with nobody else’s.

Trends and comparisons

Three ways to look at it

Over 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, a year or dates you choose.

Scatter

Ketones against one thing at a time

Put your ketones or GKI against net carbs in the 24 hours before, last night’s sleep, how long you had been fasting or your weight change over seven days, and see every paired reading as a point.

The number of paired readings sits beside the chart, with Loopa’s own sentence describing what the points show.

  • Ketones or GKI on one axis
  • Food, fasting, sleep, exercise or weight on the other
  • The count of paired readings, always shown

What moves together

Patterns that have to earn their place

The part most trackers leave to you and a chart.

The relationship explorer

Checked against your own readings

Loopa compares your ketones and GKI with food in the meal before and over the previous 6, 12 and 24 hours, exercise in the day before, last night’s sleep, how long you had been fasting and your weight, and lists what tends to rise and fall together, strongest first.

Run enough comparisons on anybody’s data and a few look meaningful by chance. Loopa corrects for that with the Benjamini-Hochberg method, a standard adjustment for testing many things at once, so when it says “No relationship found” it means it.5

  • Every comparison corrected for chance, together
  • Strongest first, with the number of readings behind each
  • “No relationship found” is an answer, not an error
  • A missing window is left out, never counted as zero
The Loopa What moves together screen on iPhone listing patterns between net carbs and your ketones and GKI, each with its strength and number of paired readings
Why am I seeing this?

Every pattern shows its working

Tap any pattern for what was compared, the time window, how many readings it rests on, how many were missing and which method was used.

A pattern describes readings that tended to go together. It does not show that one led to the other, and Loopa never suggests changing your food, fasting, exercise or medication because of one.

  • What was compared, and over which window
  • Readings used and readings missing
  • The method, and why it was chosen
  • A reminder that it is an association
The Loopa Why am I seeing this? screen on iPhone explaining one pattern: the readings compared, the window, the method and that it describes an association

Why it is built this way

Ketones move with your day, so they are shown with it

The physiology

Ketones answer to food, fasting and movement

The liver makes ketone bodies when carbohydrate is scarce, during a fast or on a very low-carbohydrate diet, and the body burns them for fuel, including during exercise.1 A single reading says little on its own; readings logged beside those things over weeks say more.

The ratio

A GKI with no zones

The glucose ketone index was described alongside a calculator built to follow metabolic therapy.2 A 2026 commentary calls it a compelling hypothesis that still needs clinical validation and recommends n-of-1 study of one person’s own readings over time.3 That is why Loopa compares your GKI with your own earlier numbers.

Movement

Exercise is in the picture

In a randomized crossover study, exercise at the start of a 36-hour fast raised beta-hydroxybutyrate compared with not exercising.4 Studies describe groups of people; the explorer looks only at you.

Ketone tracking elsewhere

Most food trackers stop at keto macros

What the other trackers on our comparison pages say about ketones, from their own pages and store listings.

Loopa

A log, a GKI and a test

Loopa logs the reading, pairs the glucose, then tests every comparison together and tells you which patterns hold up and which do not, beside your food, fasting, workouts, protocols and weight in one app.

Ketone tracking found

On the vendors’ own pages

Cronometer: imports blood ketones and glucose from a Keto-Mojo meter; Gold charts them against nutrients (checked October 29, 2026). We found no test of whether a pattern holds up described on its pages; a chart is read by eye.

Not described

On the other trackers we compare

MyFitnessPal, Fitia, Lose It! and Noom do not describe logging a blood ketone reading or a GKI in their store listings. A listing is not proof a feature is absent, so the comparison pages show these as not verified.

FAQ

Questions about Metabolic Insights

The ones people ask before they test.

Does Loopa sync ketones from my meter or my watch?

No. Apple Health and Health Connect have no blood ketone type, so a ketone reading is entered in Loopa, which takes a few seconds. Glucose, sleep, activity and weight from your connected sources are used as they arrive, so the rest of the picture fills itself in.

What is a good GKI?

Loopa does not say. Published GKI zones came out of brain cancer research and are still being studied, so Loopa shows your GKI beside your own earlier readings, with no target, no range and no color for good or bad, and leaves what it means for you to a conversation with your clinician.

How is the GKI worked out?

Glucose in mg/dL, divided by 18.016, divided by ketones in mmol/L: the formula from the published GKI calculator. A glucose of 90 mg/dL with ketones of 1.0 mmol/L gives 5.0. Loopa pairs each ketone reading with the nearest glucose reading within 15 minutes, or within 30 if there is none closer, or uses the one you enter or choose.

Why does my GKI say “No data”?

There was no glucose reading within 30 minutes of the ketone reading, or the ketone reading was 0, which cannot be divided by. Enter the glucose from the same test, or choose a nearby reading, and the GKI appears.

How many readings before Loopa finds a pattern?

Ten paired readings before it describes a relationship at all, and twenty before it will call one a stronger recurring pattern. Under ten it says “Not enough data yet”, and when nothing stands out it says “No relationship found”.

Do I need to be on keto or fasting to use it?

No. Metabolic Insights works with whatever you already log in Loopa. If you time fasts with the fasting timer, those fasts appear beside your readings; if you do not, the fasting columns stay empty rather than reading zero.

Can I share my readings with my clinician?

Yes. Export readings (CSV) builds a spreadsheet of every reading with its time, context, paired glucose, GKI and note, and you can add a Metabolic Insights section to the report you share with your clinician. It is off until you turn it on.

Is Metabolic Insights part of Loopa Basic?

No, it is part of Loopa Premium and Loopa Premium Family, and every new member gets all of Premium free for the first 14 days, with no card. After that, Loopa Premium is $59.99 a year ($5 a month) or $12.99 a month. Loopa Premium Family covers up to six people for $99.99 a year or $19.99 a month. Or keep Loopa Basic, free. If Premium ends, Metabolic Insights locks and nothing is deleted: rejoin and every reading is where you left it.
