Free food and macro logging, no daily cap

Hit your protein. Every single day.

Gaining is mostly a logging problem: a surplus small enough to stay lean, and a protein number you actually reach rather than one you estimate optimistically on a Sunday.

Food and macro logging is free, with no cap on meals per day

What actually matters

Four things a bulk lives or dies on.

The training is not Loopa's job. The eating is, and the eating is where most lean bulks quietly turn into ordinary weight gain.

Protein

A number you can see all day

Protein sits on the home screen next to calories, not three taps into a menu, so you know at four in the afternoon whether dinner needs to do heavy lifting. Logging in plain words is free and uncapped, which matters when a bulk means five or six eating occasions rather than three.

Free
  • Protein, carbs and fat on the home screen with calories
  • Unlimited meals a day on the free tier
  • Plain-language logging, so a shake takes five seconds
  • Macro split set for muscle retention and gain, against the position stand on protein and exercise

Surplus

Small enough to stay lean

The setup interview sets a surplus rather than a deficit when your goal is gaining, and picks a size meant to add tissue rather than just weight. The seven-day trend then tells you whether the number is right. Too fast and it is not all muscle, flat for a fortnight and the surplus is not real.

  • Seven-day average to tell signal from water

Beyond the scale

The scale cannot tell you what you gained

Weight going up says nothing about what went up. Arm, chest, thigh, waist and neck on a draggable ruler, down to an eighth of an inch, plus a body-fat estimate from the circumference method Hodgdon and Beckett published for the US Navy in 1984, named on the screen so you know what produced it. It is a field estimate rather than a measurement: Potter and colleagues, assessing it in Frontiers in Physiology (2022), concluded that the method “provides a field expedient method… but does not provide research-grade quantitative body composition data”. Waist holding steady while the others move is the entire point of a lean bulk, and it is invisible on a scale.

Getting it in

Eating that much is the hard part

At a real surplus the difficulty stops being restraint and becomes logistics. The planner builds days that hit the number, leans on what is already in your pantry, and hands back one shopping list, which is the difference between a plan and a good intention.

Premium
  • 1 to 7 days planned to hit calories and protein
  • Built around what is already in your kitchen
  • One combined shopping list
  • Saved meals for the things you eat every day

Loopa does not write training programs. It tracks the eating, the weight and the measurements that tell you whether the program you are already running is working.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask before a gaining phase.

Does Loopa set a protein target?

Yes. The setup interview sets calories and a macro split appropriate to gaining, with protein sized for muscle growth and retention, and it sits on the home screen next to calories rather than buried in a menu. The International Society of Sports Nutrition’s position stand on protein and exercise puts 1.4 to 2.0 g per kilogram a day, roughly 0.64 to 0.91 g per pound, as enough for most people who train, and a meta-analysis by Morton and colleagues in the British Journal of Sports Medicine (2018) found no further gain in fat-free mass above about 1.62 g per kilogram. You can also set the figure yourself, and there is no ceiling: above 1.2 g per pound of your goal weight Loopa shows a health notice pointing at those two sources, and then saves the number you asked for.

Can I use Loopa for a lean bulk?

That is the case it is set up for. It picks a controlled surplus rather than an aggressive one, charts the seven-day trend so you can tell whether the rate is right, and on Premium tracks the measurements that show whether what you gained is what you wanted.

Does Loopa track workouts?

It logs sessions. Walks, runs, rides, swims, lifting and yoga. Along with active minutes and the calories they put back into your day, free. Structured training (sets, reps, weight, personal records and multi-week programs) is part of Premium.

How do I know if I am gaining muscle or fat?

Not from the scale alone, which is the point. On Premium, track waist alongside arm, chest and thigh: waist holding while the others move is the signal you are after. The body-fat estimate and progress photos add to the picture, and the report pulls the whole lot together.

Is food logging free?

Yes, and there is no cap on meals a day, which matters more on a bulk than on a cut. Typing a meal in plain words and searching the food database are both free, with no ads.

Can Loopa plan high-protein days for me?

On Premium, yes. The planner builds one to seven days against your calorie and protein targets, works around what is already in your pantry, and produces a single combined shopping list.
